Being happy can be an elusive thing. If we believe things will make us happy we will search our whole life and sadly end with nothing. But being happy doesn’t mean you always feel happy. Sometimes life is hard and it hurts, people treat you bad or you just don’t feel like trying anymore.
This is when happiness needs to be understood in terms of Christ and spiritual life. The facts of life give us joy and sustain us through these trying times. God is the ruler of the world. Christ died for the sins of the world. In Christ God has forgiven us from all of our sins.
Armed with these facts and living in Christ allows us to have a deep abiding joy that puts the hard times in life in perspective. You don’t always feel good about the circumstances of life. But you can have joy despite them. See two examples. Paul and Silas Acts 16:22-25. And Jesus; he is not emotionally happy in the garden. He is in agony. But he has joy and perseveres through the trials see Philippians 2:5-11; Hebrews 12:1-3.
It may be hard to believe, but you don’t have to feel happy in order to be happy. Praise God he is our happiness.
